India bears 50% burden of the Filarial Lymphedema patients, our goal is to inspire and ignite the minds of young Physiotherapy students through information and education, our message is that early diagnosis and modern treatment methodologies have made it possible to manage the chronic nature of this disease to quite some extent.

It was a unique experience as we felt a very warm and receptive audience not just that the students were eager to learn but also, the faculty, college principal and also the Chairpersons of all the three Universities were equally enthusiastic about introducing the training program as a follow-up after the introduction to the subject.

All the eminent faculty had an excellent rapport. The subjects discussed were from Patho-Physiology to, Role of Surgery, International view points, and how to practice therapy with Indian patients in particular. 2 DAY CAMP targeting Lymphatic Filariasis (LF) January 24-25, 2017

2 DAY CAMP targeting Lymphatic Filariasis (LF) January 24-25, 2017

Lymphatic filariasis (LF) appears to be a significant problem in Pisawan block. A multi-pronged intervention is needed to prevent the transmission of LF. Additional efforts to provide therapy for those affected may promote utilization of MDA. The WHO-supported Mass Drug Administration (MDA) programme has resulted in fall of incidence of LF, but it is expected that problems like Lymphedema and Hydrocele will take more time.  Discussions revealed low awareness about treatment possibilities of ill effects of LF and also about MDA. A multi-pronged intervention is needed to prevent the transmission of LF. On 24 and 25 January 2017, A community based LF diagnosis and self treatment camp was organized by LE&RN India Chapter in association with local NGO  Sangtin and technical consultant SATHI, in Pisawan Dist. Of UP State in India.

* Total 110 number of patients, were screened and diagnosed by Dr Gogia and later trained in self treatment with CDT protocol.

* In two days of training patients could already see the difference and were enthusiastic about self- management.

* A follow up review visit is scheduled for 22 February.
