The NIH Conference, "The Third Circulation: Lymphatics as Regulators in Health and Disease" was a great opportunity to learn about lymphatics. I am a postdoc student in immunology and going to this meeting provided me with knowledge about lymphatics in fields like cancer, cardiovascular, and brain biology that I didn’t have.
I also had the opportunity to meet experts in the field, including not only scientists but also patients. I realized that the research on lymphatics is needed as well as lacking, with many gaps needing to be filled. I walked away with ideas and hope to study the role of lymphatics in autoimmune diseases, like scleroderma, my special interest, where these multifaceted cells and vessels are still not taken in account.
