Breaking the Silence on Lymphatic Diseases: Knowledge, Research, Care
Kampala, Uganda - March 6, 2026
“Breaking the Silence on Lymphatic Diseases: Knowledge, Research, Care” is a World Lymphedema Day 2026 event to be held on 6th March, organized by Edema Support Foundation Uganda. The event reflects the Foundation’s mission to increase public understanding of lymphatic diseases—including lymphedema, lipedema, podoconiosis, and related chronic swelling conditions—and to advocate for improved research, early diagnosis, and accessible, dignified care for affected individuals and communities.
Building on Edema Support Foundation Uganda’s community-based work, the event will address persistent stigma, myths, and misinformation that contribute to delayed care and social exclusion. Through awareness sessions, patient testimonies, health education, and stakeholder dialogue, the event will empower communities with practical knowledge on prevention, early identification, self-management, and referral pathways.
The event will bring together people living with lymphatic diseases, caregivers, health workers, researchers, civil society organizations, and policymakers to strengthen collaboration and promote integrated, community-centered responses. Special attention will be given to women and girls, who are disproportionately affected by stigma and barriers to care.
By breaking the silence around lymphatic diseases, Edema Support Foundation Uganda seeks to amplify patient voices, influence policy and research priorities, and advance equitable, sustainable care—ensuring that no one is left behind due to preventable or manageable lymphatic conditions.
