This lecture discussed the role of surgical techniques in the prevention of breast cancer–related lymphedema. It highlighted advances in surgical approaches designed to reduce lymphatic disruption during breast cancer treatment, such as lymphatic-sparing procedures and immediate lymphatic reconstruction. The session explored current evidence on how these surgical strategies may help lower the risk of developing lymphedema, while also emphasizing the importance of multidisciplinary care, early detection, and rehabilitation to optimize long-term outcomes for breast cancer survivors.
