Panel Discussion: Raising Awareness of Lymphedema – Early Detection and Treatment Approaches

The Macedonian Association for Reconstructive Microsurgery, in collaboration with HemaOnko (an organization of patients with malignancies) and FSA – the Student Association of the Faculty of Medicine, with the support of Mrs.Radmila Handziska , CEO of Medicus Help Macedonia, is organizing a panel discussion to raise awareness about lymphedema on the occasion of World Lymphedema Day (March 6).
This discussion will place patients at the center of the conversation, focusing on the challenges faced by individuals who develop lymphedema after treatment for malignant diseases. Through shared experiences and professional perspectives, the panel will highlight the importance of early recognition, timely diagnosis, and comprehensive care.
The event will emphasize the value of a multidisciplinary approach in the prevention and management of lymphedema, bringing together specialists from different fields to discuss modern treatment strategies and patient-centered care.

Prof. Sofija Pejkova, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon, President of the Macedonian Association for Reconstructive Microsurgery (MARM)
Assistant Prof. Dr. Natasha Tolevska, Breast Surgeon
Assoc. Prof. Biljana Kalchovska, Physiatrist
Sasho Cvetanovski, Physiotherapist
Patients will also participate in the discussion, sharing their personal experiences and perspectives, contributing to a deeper understanding of living with lymphedema.
Medical students will also be actively involved, providing them with an opportunity to learn about the importance of patient-focused care and multidisciplinary collaboration in the management of this condition.
The event aims to raise awareness among healthcare professionals, students, patients, and the wider public, promote early detection, and improve the quality of care for individuals affected by lymphedema.
