MMI is on a mission to advance robotic technology that pushes the limits of soft tissue open surgery and opens new opportunities for surgeons to restore quality of life for more patients with complex conditions. The company was founded in 2015 near Pisa, Italy, and its proprietary Symani® Surgical System combines the world’s smallest wristed microinstruments with tremor-reducing and motion-scaling technologies to address significant unmet patient needs across the globe. This first-of-its-kind surgical robotic platform for open, soft tissue micro-level surgery can help address microvascular repair and lymphatic repair.
We recognized the opportunity to expand treatment options for lymphedema by enabling more surgeons to perform microsurgery and supermicrosurgery in soft tissue procedures. These surgeries, which involve delicate vessels and nerves that are just millimeters in diameter, require enhanced precision to reduce trauma and promote faster recovery. However, only a limited number of surgeons are trained in these specialized techniques.
Our solution was clear: a miniaturized articulated instrument. We developed the world’s smallest wristed instrument and the only robotic platform capable of delivering the precise movements required for these delicate procedures. The Symani Surgical System was born from this vision, proving how innovation can make previously impossible treatments for lymphedema a reality.
Introducing the future of lymphedema surgery: The Symani Surgical System. Symani is a first-of-its-kind robotic technology designed to help reconnect some of the smallest vessels in the body using a surgical technique called microsurgery. These advanced capabilities can be applied to help prevent or treat lymphedema surgically with enhanced precision and control.
The robotic system mimics natural hand movements on a micro scale, filters out tremors, and helps refine surgeons movements for greater accuracy. These features may lead to less-invasive procedures, potentially faster recovery times, and improved outcomes.
