Dr. Peter Mortimer: new video Symposium available and book launch

LE&RN Honorary Board

LE&RN is fortunate to have an active Honorary Board, prominent people who choose to use their celebrity to help further our cause.

In June, Honorary Board Member Steve Guttenberg was featured on In the Arena a radio talk show in New York City. Steve spoke about his mother's battle with LE and why he has made a commitment to ensure a better future for lymphedema and lymphatic disease patients.

LE&RN Spokesperson and Honorary Board Member Kathy Bates celebrated her June birthday in style at the cocktail reception she hosted for top fundraisers of CA #LymphWalk the night before the Run/Walk in Santa Monica. Happy birthday, Kathy Bates!

Ann Ehrlich, LE activist and founder of LymphNotes, dies at age 85

Ann Ehrlich, founder of LymphNotes, passed away earlier this month. It was through Ann's commitment and generosity that LE&RN has been able to offer lymphedema therapist scholarships every year.

Thanks to the continued dedication of her family, these scholarships will continue to be offered as a legacy to Ann.

Lymphatic Research and Biology

Driven by a 166% increase in submissions in 2017, Lymphatic Research and Biology, the official journal of LE&RN, will increase in frequency to 6 issues per year in 2018. Free access to select articles in the journal is available through 7/6/17. 

Hundreds attend online Symposium; dozens participate in Q&A with Drs. Rockson and Quan 

In May, Stanford Medical announced it is working on a possible drug treatment for lymphedema along with Eiger BioPharmaceuticals, which is sponsoring the clinical trial. This news was met with enthusiasm by LE patients, loved ones, and the medical community.

Dr. Stanley Rockson, a chief author of the drug study and the Founding Chair of LE&RN's Scientific and Medical Advisory Council, delivered a presentation regarding this hopeful development alongside Dr. Joanne Quan, Chief Medical Officer of Eiger BioPharmaceuticals, to LE&RN Supporting Members and guests on June 28. The Symposium drew hundreds of viewers from around the world and discussion from the online audience was lively. Edited video of the Symposium will be available soon on LE&RN's website and Youtube channel.

Lymphatic research featured in Washington Post

In June, The Washington Post highlighted the work of Dr. Kari Alitalo and Dr. Jonathan Kipnis. Because of Supporting Members and Corporate Partners, LE&RN has been able to support the work of both labs and move important research forward.

LE&RN presents Travel and Poster Awards at Lymphatic Forum

On June 10, LE&RN awarded 18 Travel and 5 Poster Awards to young researchers who attended the Lymphatic Forum in Chicago. The conference featured a full day of clinical and new treatment presentations, including potential drug therapies. Thank you to LE&RN Supporting Members who make this possible.

LE&RN is proud to collaborate with The Lipedema Project USA on The Lymphedema Symposium, which will take place at BIDMC/Harvard Medical School in Boston, November 3-4, 2017. LE&RN President & CEO William Repicci is a featured speaker at the event, which will be Livestreamed by LE&RN.
