Kathy Bates to be honored at The 24 Hour Plays 2019 Broadway Gala

LE&RN Spokesperson Kathy Bates will be the honoree at the 19th annual The 24 Hour Plays Broadway Gala on November 18. Stars from Broadway, TV, and film will write, rehearse, and perform new plays in a one-night-only special event to raise money and awareness for LE&RN. Lady Gaga, Whoopi Goldberg, and Nathan Lane are just some of the stars serving on the Benefit Committee. Order premium orchestra seats while they last. VIP tickets, which include the afterparty with Kathy Bates and the cast, are also on sale. Event sponsorship opportunities are available.
 

10th anniversary NY 5K Fun Run & Walk to Fight LE & LD breaks attendance and fundraising records

The October 19 Fun Run & Walk at Riverside Park drew hundreds of participants and fundraising exceeded the set goal. We thank all Walkers, Runners, fundraisers, and sponsors who made this the most successful New York LymphWalk in history. 
 

AVLS Annual Congress to be held in Phoenix

The American Vein & Lymphatic Society (AVLS) will host its 33rd Annual Congress November 7-10, 2019 (check-in on 11/6) at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort in Phoenix, AZ. Dr. Stanley Rockson and LE&RN Ambassadors Cam Ayala and Crystal Garrett will discuss the patient experience of diagnosing and treating lymphedema at the Lymphedema Specialty Section Meeting, Saturday, November 10, and LE&RN will be an exhibitor.
 

LE&RN-funded research featured in Harvard Gazette

The Harvard Gazette featured research supported by NIH, LE&RN, and the Ludwig Center at Harvard. Co-first-author Esak (Isaac) Lee, Ph.D., was a postdoctoral fellow at the Wyss Institute and Boston University when the research was carried out and is now an assistant professor at Cornell University. 
 

Dianne and Irving Kipnes Endowed Chair in Lymphatic Disorders established in Alberta, Canada 

The Department of Oncology in the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta, Canada, in conjunction with the Cancer Research Institute of Northern Alberta, is inviting applications for their recently established endowed Chair in Lymphatic Disorders. Having a dedicated Lymphatic Disorders Research Chair in Canada is a tremendous sign of progress that our community can be proud of and be hopeful that, at long last, more research attention is being directed toward LE and LD.
 

Dr. Joshua Scallan publishes groundbreaking lymphatic research

LE&RN Supporting Member Joshua Scallan, Ph.D., assistant professor of molecular pharmacology and physiology at USF Health Morsani College of Medicine published new research impacting our understanding of lymphedema.


LE&RN represented at NIAMS

LE&RN COO Colleen McGuire represented LE&RN at the NIAMS (National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases) meeting in DC in October. LE&RN recently became a member of the NIAMS Coalition. 
 

Lymphedema Seminars

Lymphedema Seminars is offering "Networking and Educational Seminar for Lymphedema Therapists" on 11/1-3 at Eisenhower Medical Center, Rancho Mirage (near Palm Springs), CA, and on 12/6-8 at Memorial Hermann Greater Heights Hospital, Houston, TX.
 

UC San Francisco LE study at Mount Sinai, NYC

The University of California San Francisco is conducting a study at Mount Sinai, NYC, to investigate symptoms related to lymphedema. Participants who complete the study will receive $150. If you are a woman 18 years of age or older and have completed your active treatment (surgery, chemotherapy or radiation) for breast cancer at least six months ago and have lymphedema, you may be eligible. The study involves completing questionnaires as well as a two-hour evaluation and blood sample collection at Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan. For more information, call 212-241-8055 or email Nursing.Research@mountsinai.org.

 

Chicago Breast and Lymphedema Symposium

LE&RN congratulates Dr. David Chang and his team at UChicago Medicine for the success of the Chicago Breast and Lymphedema Symposium in October, an event LE&RN proudly co-sponsored. We appreciated the opportunity for Illinois Chapter Chair Sharon Vogel, LMT, CLT to speak on behalf of LE&RN as part of the patient portion agenda.
