LE&RN heads to DC to fight for research—and for cures

LE&RN is fighting for LE/LD cures, which will require increased research funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). LE&RN CEO, William ("Bill") Repicci (pictured third from right) and Scientific Medical Advisory Board Member, Tim Padera, Ph.D. (pictured at far right), met with several Institutes in August to drive that message home. Bill and Tim are pictured above with the staff of National Heart, Lung, Blood Institute (NHLBI).

Fashion designer, TV personality, and author Diane Gilman joins LE&RN Honorary Board

“I won my battle against cancer,” said Diane Gilman in the press release announcing her joining LE&RN's Honorary Board, “but I wasn’t prepared for the fight to come – the one with lymphedema." Diane, often called the "Queen of Jeans" by her QVC/HSN fans, will be bringing much-needed attention to lymphedema and lymphatic diseases. We are thrilled to welcome Diane on board.

Join BIDMC/Harvard Medical School, in partnership with LE&RN, at the Joseph B. Martin Conference Center in Boston, MA, on September 28 for the third annual Lymphedema Patient Symposium. This year's agenda will target patient-specific needs relating to lymphedema. Cam Ayala, LE&RN Ambassador, Patient Advocate, and 2019 Contestant on The Bachelorette and Bachelor in Paradise will deliver the keynote lecture, "Living Through the Trial of Primary Lymphedema."

Chicago Breast and Lymphedema Symposium

The Chicago Breast and Lymphedema Symposium, October 18-19, 2019, will impact the clinical practice and behavior of the target audience by updating the knowledge of diagnoses and therapies for breast cancer, lymphedema, and breast reconstruction. Symposium faculty will illustrate concrete examples of successful patient care through coordinated intervention by breaking down individual procedures and analyzing steps in patient care. Faculty will also discuss technique and challenges encountered in various surgical procedures. For the first time since its inception eight years ago, the Symposium will be open to the public and will include a Patient Advocacy Session. LE&RN is a co-sponsor of the event.

The Cerini Challenge

This year's Cerini Challenge fundraiser is almost halfway to its $10,000 goal. In August, longtime LE&RN Board Member Ken Cerini is completing a 50-mile hike in the Adirondacks where he will climb ten mountains. In September, he heads back to NH to tackle the President’s range and other mountains to meet the 50-mountain goal.

Let's show Ken that all of us at LE&RN are behind him as he tackles these challenges in the name of lymphedema and lymphatic education, research, and advocacy. Read all about Ken's journey here and please do what you can to support this wonderful fundraiser.
