Welcome LE&RN Tanzania Chapter! A special message from Chapter Co-Chair Gean Cabral

Dear LE&RN Supporting Members, and Allies in the Fight Against LE and LD,

Welcome to the LE&RN Tanzania Chapter.

It is indeed an honour to be a part of LE&RN in the joint fight against lymphedema (LE) and lymphatic diseases (LD).

On behalf of Founder and CEO of Sanitas Hospital, Krishnamurthy “Murthy” Venkateswaran (pictured below left), and I (Operations Manager, pictured at right), we would like to introduce ourselves to LE&RN’s community. Sanitas Hospital located in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, offers comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services. Upon Murthy’s introduction and training of lymphatic diseases and management protocol we began treating patients suffering from LE and LD in February 2018. In the short time since we started giving treatment, we have seen remarkable changes in patients – health wise, physically, mentally and emotionally.

Touched by the lives of people living with lymphatic diseases with all their difficulties, pain and stigma that they endure, we have developed a passion for its management and are driven to raise awareness of the disease.

Due to the lack of knowledge in LE/LD management, we have taken the initiative to raise awareness across Tanzania through radio health talks, and in the local newspapers. Our hope is to dispel the stigmatization and discrimination the general public holds towards lymphatic patients. Also, to provide information to both patients and health care professionals that lymphatic diseases can be managed. It is our intention to maintain such a leadership role in this endeavor. Our goal is to carry out research and educational programs throughout Tanzania.

For this reason, we are excited to launch our Tanzania Chapter and work in collaboration with LE&RN and its resources, in an effort to provide guidance to those who are directly or indirectly afflicted by lymphatic diseases.

We look forward to your interaction and participation in any way possible. Please visit our Tanzania Chapter page to learn more about us.

Sincerely,
Gean Cabral
Co-Chair, Tanzania Chapter

P.S. I urge everyone to become Supporting Members of LE&RN. Without Supporting Members, LE&RN cannot continue its education, research, and advocacy programs. And only Supporting Members can participate in local Chapters.
