March 6th is recognized as World Lymphedema Day. Lymphedema (LE) is chronic swelling caused by a build-up of fluid that occurs when the lymphatic system is either damaged or blocked. As many as 10 million people suffer from lymphedema in the US alone. That is more than MS, Muscular Dystrophy, ALS, Parkinson’s and AIDS -- combined.
Come visit us to learn more about what causes lymphedema, the treatment, and how to manage this incurable disease. Resources will be provided to educate you on the lymphatic systems, advances in treatment, and ways that you can get involved.
This event is free and open to MGH staff, patients and visitors.
