THE PURPOSE OF THIS SYMPOSIUM: This symposium was designed to reinforce the importance of an integrated multi-disciplinary team approach to lymphedema in order to bring about the greatest advances in patient care. This meant inviting leading world authorities to present a model of comprehensive care options: lymphedema therapists, lymphatic surgeons, radiologists, breast surgeons and radiation oncologists. Although each symposium stands on it own, the symposium was designed to give the audience a comprehensive experience beginning with patient evaluation, therapy and imaging, and both restorative and prophylactic surgical options. All these topics are addressed with an eye towards defining the ideal lymphedema center.
The Patient Symposium immediately followed with topics centered on cutting edge treatment options. Following this, there were presentations from people living with lymphatic diseases and from representatives of leading nonprofits in the field.
