Janet Mumbua Mwau is a physiotherapist at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) and a passionate advocate for advancing lymphoedema care in Kenya and Africa. She specializes in evidence-based rehabilitation, lymphoedema management, oncology wellness, clinical mentorship, research, and multidisciplinary care.
She is the developer of the Lymphoedema and Oncology Wellness Program (LOWP) at KNH, a multidisciplinary initiative focused on improving recovery, function, and quality of life for patients living with lymphoedema and oncology-related conditions.
Janet pioneered and facilitated the first World Lymphoedema Commemoration in Kenya, hosted at Kenyatta National Hospital in collaboration with the Physiotherapy Council of Kenya. The initiative included nationwide awareness activities, free screening services, healthcare webinars, and a public awareness walk aimed at increasing recognition of lymphoedema as a major public health concern.
She is also the Founder and CEO of Lymphyt Physiotherapy Center, an operational and online physiotherapy and education platform dedicated to lymphoedema awareness, early diagnosis, rehabilitation, patient support, and healthcare professional education.
Her vision is to promote research, policy development, and integration of lymphoedema care into the national health scheme while strengthening multidisciplinary care systems in Kenya and Africa. Janet is particularly passionate about transforming lymphoedema management from late-stage intervention to early detection and preventive care in order to reduce disability and improve long-term patient outcomes.
Janet actively contributes to local and international discussions on lymphoedema advocacy, research, early diagnosis, multidisciplinary management, and evidence-based practice with the goal of improving access to quality lymphatic care across Africa.
Janet joined the Lymphatic Education & Research Network (LE&RN) to strengthen collaboration, research, advocacy, and education in lymphatic health while contributing to global efforts aimed at improving early diagnosis, patient-centered care, and policy development. Through LE&RN, she hopes to help advance awareness and sustainable lymphoedema care systems in Kenya and across Africa.
