Kushaba Lawin
Chair, LE&RN Uganda Chapter
Kushaba Lawin is a dedicated advocate for individuals living with lymphedema and related lymphatic disorders in Uganda. Her journey with lymphedema began seventeen years ago when an infection damaged strips of lymph nodes, leading to massive swelling in her right leg. Confronting the physical and emotional challenges of the condition firsthand, she recognized the urgent need for awareness, treatment, and support for lymphedema patients in Uganda.
Determined to make a difference, Lawin founded the Lymphedema Warriors Association Uganda (LWAU)—an organization committed to advocacy, providing access to compression garments, and organizing medical camps to deliver essential healthcare services. She is also leading efforts to establish Uganda’s first Lymphedema Rehabilitation Center, which will offer specialized treatment and comprehensive support to patients in need.
Through her collaborations with international partners, Lawin is working to expand access to care and ensure that lymphedema patients in Uganda receive the treatment, recognition, and dignity they deserve.
"I joined LE&RN because I know firsthand what it means to live with lymphedema in a country where resources are scarce and awareness is limited. Through my advocacy and community outreach, I aim to amplify the voices of lymphedema patients in Uganda, push for better healthcare policies, and improve access to treatment. My ultimate goal is a future where no one has to suffer in silence."
