India Chapter Chair, Arun Rekha receives the Impact Award at the Run/Walk in Santa Monica

Thank you  all for inviting me here and for choosing me to Award this Oscar… With that intro I already feel like a star.... in the city of stars....Thank you for the Oscar
I caught the passion from my husband. Treatment should be available at the doorstep. To the patient.
As the numbers of patients grew I felt the need to learn more than the knowledge around me was available ..Your limitation—it's only your imagination, So I realized that I have to go beyond my comfort level if I seek to grow and accept the challenge,I had to be stronger than the challenge and landed in America Gunter Klose school., It was this learning and it’s application in my field that inspired me to be more creative and encouraged me to foster changes in patient care and to deliver more I had to learn more.So , In my quest to learn more I had to travel around the world, but it is US that has contributed the most to my knowledge and capabilities.

I believe that Meetings are never by chance, I was destined to meet Bill, I knew of LERN much before we met, coz of his innovative ideas of making knowledge freely available on the internet...kudos and thanks ...it has made a big difference..I am the proof.
About Bill
“It's beauty that captures your attention; personality that captures your heart “
Need say no more
I must congratulate LERN for the achievements they have had under his leadership, and I want to carry this torch to India we have 40% of the world ,s burden of lymphatic filariasis according to WHO.....millions of patients potential candidates for lymphedema and elephantiasis...we need more than just a will
On his İnvitation I joined LERN and what a change it has made in my approach and others that approach me
We celebrated the first WLD in India and Bill sent a wonderful video message along with then senators martin j golden and Linda B. Rosenthal ..declaring 6 March ....simultaneously it happened in US and INDIA....what a moment!....We could mesmerize about a 100 influential people who were in the room.....this is the power of connection.....Bill, he makes it his responsibility to inspire others .
Since then we have celebrated WLDS.....in different cities and that has motivated us to travel around India and try to unite patients dr therapists and govt officers to come together and recognize how big the challenge is ...Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common vision. ...Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much."......LERN provides that platform
I am so impressed and motivated by the attempts that LERN is making to give patients acknowledgement and recognition and finally fighting for freedom from disease in future..Nobody can give you equality or justice or anything. If you're a man, you take it.
I am thankful to his whole team

I'd like to thank everyone else who supported me during my work — there are too many people to list, but I want to thank them all personally.

As much as I appreciate this award and as grateful as I am for it, the greatest reward I’ve ever been given is the simple opportunity to connect with my patients and able to make a difference in their lives .

I believe that hope is precious, and we are right not to give up.” As we leave here today,
