LE&RN CO Chapter Chair attends lunch with the CEO of the AMA

On Monday, October 3rd, in Chicago, LE&RN Representatives met with the CEO of the American Medical Association (AMA). Physician education regarding lymphedema, lipedema and lymphatic disease is our priority. The meeting resulted in AMA CEO Dr. James Madara asking that LE&RN submit a "Piece of My Mind" editorial for publication consideration in JAMA. The inclusion of lymphatic related Continuing Medical Education (CME) in the AMA/JAMA Network of courses was also discussed. We were also able to talk about all the current preventive and post diagnosis treatment modalities for LE.
The meeting was arranged and hosted by Dr. Nancy Gray, CEO & President of Gordon Research Conference. Participants in addition to Dr. Gray included Marie Apodaca (patient and CO LE&RN Chapter Chair), LE&RN Spokesperson Kathy Bates, Dr. Stan Rockson, Sarah Blendermann (COO of GRC) and myself.
FOX NEWS: Prior to the meeting, we were interviewed by Fox News that initially planned a piece on our CO Chapter Chair, Marie Apodaca (above second from left). This grew into them covering the NY Walk and the Chicago meeting. Kathy Bates, Dr. Rockson and William Repicci were all interviewed as well. It will be distributed nationally through Fox affiliates
A side note: at the meeting, Dr. Gray told Dr. Madara that thanks to LE&RN, the GRC is changing course from its 85 year history. LE&RN having had a patient session at the lymphatics meeting this year inspired them. They are now discussing patient sessions being offered to the more than 200 disciplines that have GRC conferences.
