Gennelle Rice Thomas
Co-Chair, Ohio Chapter
I am a Quality Professional (Quality Systems Specialist) with 30+ years of experience in various industries. My background education is in Business Administration with emphasis in Organizational Management, and a Professional Development Certificate of Women’s Entrepreneurship from Cornell University. My
career goals have allowed me to serve as President and Vice President of the International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP) – Bluegrass Kentucky Chapter.
I have secondary Lymphedema of the lower extremities and the journey of the unknown has been quite daunting to say the least. I was diagnosed in 2022 but was very proactive with my health when I started noticing changes with my legs 5 years prior. I was told by the medical team that it was Osteoarthritis and that I needed knee replacements. Throughout the years, every medical visit Physical Therapy was focused on Osteoarthritis. I applied the 5-Why Analysis, and I still could not get an accurate diagnosis to the root cause of the swelling in my knees.
The swelling in my knees caused a “lobule” on the inside of both knees, therefore the weight of those lobules inflamed my Medial Patellar Retinaculum – a tendon of the knee that crosses the knee joint on the medial side of the patella. Lymphedema has limited my mobility and changed my life in the blink of an eye.
After the Lymphedema diagnosis, I found there was very limited information, so I then created my own Research and Development to educate myself. Also, while researching I found that there were no chapters in my area. I’m looking forward to being a part of the LE&RN Family.
