Complete Reduction of Large, Chronic Primary and Secondary
Fat-Transformed Lymphedemas
Date: June 11, 2026
Description: Who is the intended audience? Patients, caregivers, medical professionals, researchers, policymakers) What are the key takeaways for attendees? When CDT has transformed the lymphedema to a non-pitting state and the swelling is still large, liposuction can normalize the volume of the extremity. Liposuction followed by compression leads to complete reduction and long-term follow-up shows no recurrence. Once complex decongestive therapy (CDT) has converted lymphedema to a non-pitting state, yet a substantial residual volume persists, liposuction can be employed to achieve normalization of the affected extremity. When combined with continuous postoperative compression therapy, liposuction enables complete volume reduction. Long-term follow-up data demonstrate sustained outcomes without recurrence, contingent upon adherence to compression garment use.
