Making waves in Hawaii….
I am delighted to report that Hawaii State Governor, David Ige has proclaimed March 6th as World Lymphedema Day! The Proclamation Ceremony took place at the Hawaii State Capital on Feb 15th at 9:30am and was attended by cancer / LE survivor, and body surfing champion Mikey Wolper, and fellow lymphatic therapists. We all wore teal and white orchid leis, teal ribbons. Governor Ige was presented with an everlasting teal Kukui nut lei. Like many others, our Governor had not heard of LE/LD and was shocked that it affects so many people worldwide. The ceremony was also attended by the Hawaii Executive Director of the Susan G. Koman Breast Cancer Foundation, the President of the Hawaii Chapter of American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA), family and friends, all of whom wish to help towards getting LE/LD recognized, treated, and help raise money for a cure. This year I will be helping to promote March 6th at several LE/LD clinics throughout the Hawaiian Islands to raise public awareness and educate clinicians about these diseases.
Aloha! Ellie
