Dr. Lorenzo Ricolfi
Co-Chair, Italy Chapter
Dr. Lorenzo Ricolfi was born in Sanremo and graduated in medicine and surgery in Genoa. He has always cultivated a passion for Lymphology by taking numerous courses in Italy and abroad. His main interests are the clinical approach to all diseases of the lymphatic system and understanding the complex mechanisms to manage them in the best possible way.
Dr. Micaela Rita Maria Bortolon
Co-Chair, Italy Chapter
With a classic school education and a University degree in Medicine and Surgery, Dr. Micaela Rita Maria Bortolon has practiced her professional activity in an Internal Medicine and Angiology department where she has focused on lymphedema and lipedema pathophysiology. She has organized courses and local congresses directed to specialists and moreover to generalists, with the aim to promote a “mass culture” on these pathologies. She now works as Chief of a Rehabilitative Medicine.
Dr. Bortolon is married and the mother of two adolescent children. She keeps busy with their school activities. Besides her academic affiliations, she is interested in art, theatre, literature, and journeys.
Dr. Elena Fiaschi
Co-Vice Chair, Italy Chapter
Dr. Elena Fiaschi specialized in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Pisa in 1985. She also completed postgraduate studies in Oncological Lymphology, University of Milan, at the National Cancer Institute (from 24 January to 27 June 2004).
Since 1992 she has dedicated part of her commitment to Oncological Rehabilitation. With the creation of the Lymphatic Drainage Service in 1995, she has actively dealt with all pathologies affecting the lymphatic system with reference to oncological pathologies. She also has thorough specialist training in lipedema.
The experience gained in this area has led to various appointments over the last twenty years beginning with Contract Professor at the University of Pisa School of Specialization in Oncology, for the academic years ranging from 2000 to today. From 2004 to 2010, she held an appointment as Adjunct Professor within the degree course in Physiotherapy for the teaching of ADO "Lymphatic Drainage Methods.”
Since 2006, she has served as Head of the Oncological Rehabilitation Clinic at the Neuro-rehabilitation Unit as of 2009 the contact person within the Rare Diseases network of the Tuscany Region for the inclusion in the Tuscan Registry of subjects suffering from chronic primary lymphedema and idiopathic lymphedema. Also as of 2010 to today, she is the Director of the Rehabilitation Unit for Functional Recover USL NorthWest Tuscany Massa Carrara with GCP Certification for Clinical Trials with medical devices and drugs 06-June 2019.
Dr. Laura Patton
Co-Vice Chair, Italy Chapter
Dr. Laura Patton is originally from Vallelaghi, a small village near Trento in northern Italy where she currently still lives. She graduated in medicine and specialized in Endocrinology at the University Alma Mater Studiorum of Bologna where she lived for many years for study.
Since 2009 she has worked as an internist at the Rehabilitation Department for sub-acute inpatients and in the last few years at the Intensive Rehabilitation Department with inpatients with severe lymphological disease. In addition, she has been carrying out activities with endocrinology outpatients with a particular interest in obesity, metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance, polycystic ovarian syndrome, and thyroid dysfunction.
More recently, she has been carrying out endocrinology and internal consultancy activities with patients suffering from lipedema and lymphedema in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams in works in many regions of Italy.
Dr. Ilenia Guttuso
Co-Secretary, Italy Chapter
From the beginning Dr. Ilenia Guttuso became passionate about the world of PhleboLymphology and decided to devote her professional life entirely to the study of it. As a doctor specializing in General Surgery, she deals with lymphedema and vascular diseases at the Operative Unit of PhleboLymphology of the University Hospital of Palermo. Ilenia's clinical interest lies in regenerative surgery and new approaches to lymphedema.
Dr. Manuela Sciuscio
Co-Secretary, Italy Chapter
Dr. Manuela Sciuscio is specialized in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Since January 2020 she has been head of the Lymphedema Territorial Service of ASL Lecce and since 2019, she has mainly dealt with primary and secondary lymphatic pathology, from clinical diagnosis to pharmacological and therapeutic management. She is at the head of the only Regional Certifying Center for Primary Lymphedema for the Puglia region and of territorial network of therapeutic assistance to the patient with lymphedema. She also has thorough specialist training in lipedema.
