Beyond the Swelling: Understanding Life with Lymphedema

Date: September 10, 2026

Description: Lymphedema doesn't end when cancer treatment does. In this LE&RN Fireside Chat, physician and lymphedema patient advocate Dr. Sheri Prentiss sits down with physical therapist Kelly Sturm to talk honestly about life with lymphedema: the daily realities, the myths that still shape care, and what it takes to live well with a chronic condition.

About the speaker: Sheri Y. Prentiss, MD, MPH, is a physician, breast cancer survivor and lymphedema patient advocate who has lived with lymphedema since her cancer treatment in 2008. Through the LIVE Today Foundation, she provides compression garments and education at no cost to under-resourced cancer survivors with lymphedema. Kelly Sturm, DPT, is a physical therapist, Certified Lymphedema Therapist and Board-Certified Oncology Clinical Specialist who has spent more than 13 years treating lymphedema and the physical side effects of cancer treatment. She built Cancer Rehab PT to reach patients who lack access to a specialist, bringing lymphedema and oncology rehabilitation education to patients, caregivers and clinicians.
